Keir Starmer: D-Day, Normandy

We awoke early to travel by motorcade to the event.

A lot of world leaders in attendance, so security was extreme. We sped down a closed motorway as we approached the venue, then through little villages where locals waved flags and the gendarmerie lined the streets, saluting us as we passed.

We didn't know how significant Rishi’s early departure would be at the time.

At one point, I was suddenly surrounded by three large security guards and I had to explain in broken French why I didn't have a pass.

In the end I was delighted with the video, the entourage was slimmed down for the foreign trip so I had direct access to Keir for a lot longer than usual, I was able therefore to capture footage without the usual hurdles (news cameras, press and visits teams shutting down access).

Leaving took ages as the number of well-wishers was overwhelming. I guessed that the crowd skewed right, which made me feel good about our chances - even they were excited.

I received loads of positive messages, then words of congratulations when I next walked into the office, and nearly a million views on x.

Produced during my time working for the Labour Party.
